Old School Ties

The theme of the narrative we devised from the objects was Old School Ties. Their was a universal consensus that this would be taken in terms of ghost stories and unrested souls of the past school as opposed to school reunions. There were a selection of ideas nearly all of which involved some kind of death or misfortune.
In our group we decide to use the an old cardboard suit case as our inspiration. From this we devised a story that dealt with forbidden love and the actions of the two "lovers" in their quest to spend time together. From the off set the Glebe students were enthusiastic and interested although some were more prepared to take part in the acted part of the performance than others. However, they all seem to enjoy the idea of the tyrannous headteacher being locked in a suitcase and chased by a spider of their creation.

So far the Glebe students have created a selection of extremely creative spiders which have been included into the animation. In other workshops we have looked
at different animation techniques as well character generation.

Working with the students so far has been an enjoyable, rewarding and challenging experience. At times inspiring the students has felt like an uphill struggle but some of the ideas have very exciting and the enthusiasm of everyone never fails to impress.

To start off with..

We began this project in small groups where we were given props which would then feature in our story. The prop could be the main feature of the story or simply a possession of the main character, by having this focus it was easy to build up a story around it. After finalising the plot we began to look into characters and settings within the story, by then we were well on our way with building the foundations of our performance piece.
